On March 28, El Camino hosted U.S. Representative Ami Bera in a town hall where select upperclassmen had a chance to ask the former doctor questions ranging from immigration to educations policies. Everyone invited gathered in the Performing Arts Center to listen to what the Congressman had to say. Bera was joined by his assistant and other staff members who kept the event running smoothly.
Many students took the opportunity to ask Bera questions regarding personal worries or about the state of the nation, and what California Democrats were doing to protect the rights of the citizens of California. Throughout the conversation, Bera explained his beliefs about the current state of the federal government, and what role congress should play as Donald Trump’s presidency continues.

Bera also explained his philosophy towards the current animosity between the Democrats and Republicans. He believes that politicians need to have more conversations about why they believe in certain things, so they can better understand each other. Dr. Bera understands that while this could be a difficult thing to do, it will help the United States become less divided on important issues, and it will make the federal government more peaceful.
During the duration of the 45-minute event, EC media had the opportunity to film the exchange between Bera and the students. Along with this, members of the Eagle Eye Newspaper engaged with Bera, asking more specific questions about the education system going forward.
