On Friday, June 2 El Camino seniors walked across the stage at graduation while their loved ones cheered them on, amid announcements of valedictorian, awards, and other recognition other EC students earned this year.
Before the ceremony took place, the honor guard led the graduates onto the field. Honor guard is the top ten highest achieving juniors in their class.
There were two performances, Alanakai Pascual (‘23) read an original poem, and Dracos Chism (‘23) sang “Higher” by the band Creed, and played guitar. Valedictorian Caitlyn Burnett (’23) gave her traditional speech before the seniors walked across the stage to the next chapter of their lives.
Tyler Grinager, a History teacher, read names at graduation.Grinager spoke about how it was important to him to pronounce the students’ names correctly, and how he was honored to be chosen in his first year of teaching. He also spoke about how the energy in the large gym before the ceremony was very happy.
“I’d say [Graduation] was a huge success—Everyone was happy.”
Principal Evelyn Welborn thought graduation was an overall success, but her favorite part was hugging her son, Nolan Welborn (‘23).
“It was really cool because he came toward me [to shake my hand]—and I hugged him [instead].” Welborn stated. “It was definitely my favorite part.”
EC graduates are headed all over the country to pursue the next part of their lives.
