El Camino Alum Back to Teach Social Sciences

By Anya Hendricks, Managing Editor

Michael Skelly (’12) is the new government and United States history teacher here at El Camino. He is an EC alumni and has stayed in Sacramento since graduating in 2012.

This is Skelly’s second year of teaching, his first was spent teaching U.S. history at Encina. Government is his favorite subject to teach and he is excited to teach it this year for the first time.

Skelly’s students are primarily juniors and seniors and believes that it’s important for students to understand government.

“You have to go into society and understand how it works so you can have your voice heard.” he said.

It’s interesting and fun for him to listen to students as they debate controversial topics.

Outside of school he enjoys playing the piano, video games and Dungeons and Dragons.
