As the season came to an end, the girls volleyball team was preparing for senior night at El Camino 10/16, and the freshmen, juniors, and sophomores put on a surprise dance to celebrate our seniors.
Rylee Mayfeild (‘26) and Kalli Porter (‘26) are the two seniors graduating on the volleyball team. Mayfeild has been on varsity for two years and Porter for three years. Although the girls lost 3 out of 4 sets, Porter is happy with how the team played.
“We all worked really hard and it wasn’t our mistakes that made us lose, it was just a really good match,” said Porter.
Since September every Friday the girls have been practicing a dance to surprise the seniors.
Abby Cummings (‘27) talked about what went into planning for the dance.
“It was finding what songs we wanted to use and a dance that is easy for the team to remember,” said Cummings.
The volleyball community made signs for Porter and Mayfeild, having the students in the student section holding signs to cheer on the girls.
“I did not expect it cause last year we didn’t do it, so when I saw them dancing I was so happy,” explained Porter.
As the season comes to an end, all three volleyball teams have to step up to fill the places of our two seniors. Cummings mentioned how the varsity and JV players will have to work harder.
“We really need someone for varsity next year to take charge of the team and pick up the skills they had,” said Cummings.
The Volleyball team had a great season learning how to work together, communicating and building real relationships. The team lost 3 out of 3 sets played in their final game at Sutter yesterday, leaving them 7-7 and 5th place in the league.
