To get students excited for the Homecoming Dance at El Camino, student government organized a spirit week for the week leading up to the dance.
For the week’s themes, Monday was Pajama Day, Tuesday was Dress to Impress Day, Wednesday was Neon Day, Thursday was Dress as a Game Character Day, and Friday was 80’s vs. 2000’s Day.
Like the last spirit week, Sophie Partin (‘29) and Keon McCray (‘28) were the leads of arranging this spirit week. When they were deciding the themes for this week, they wanted it to correlate with the Homecoming theme which was Games Throughout the Decades.
“We knew we wanted to do something that has to do with our Hoco theme, but also, games, it’s kind of harder to dress up. So we wanted to go into stuff with the decades as well,” Partin said.
To start off the spirit week, the two leads decided to use the highly anticipated theme, Pajama Day. They wanted to reserve this theme for the week of Homecoming because it’s a more popular theme.
“Pajama day was a really big hit. It usually always is, which is why we wanted to save pajama day, because it’s a classic spirit day for Homecoming week,” McCray said.
A goal of theirs for this spirit week’s themes was to make it more accessible to every student on campus. This is because the student government class wants more students to be able to participate.
“We just wanted to also make things that everybody could participate in. So we really focused on making sure we make ones that are kind of easier for people to do,” Partin said.
Student government is already planning when their next spirit will be. They hope to do more this year to bring up the spirit at EC.
“We’re thinking of doing a spirit week for Seussical, The Musical that’s coming. We’re thinking of doing either spirit week or spirit day for that,” McCray said.
If students are interested in learning more about upcoming spirit weeks, they should look out for more posts on their Instagram, @eceaglessg, and posters around the school.
