On Feb. 4, Varsity Girls Basketball played against Rio Linda here at EC, losing 38-63.

Although the Eagles lost, Assistant Coach Tim Marbach noted that the team played well considering the strength of their opponent.

“First half, they got about a 20 point lead going into halftime. Second half we played a lot better… they only outscored us by about 5 points,” Marbach said.

Along with the improvements the team made after halftime was the performance of one of their sophomores, Taylor Stake (‘27).

Stake, similar to her assistant coach, noted how the team did progressively better throughout the game, including her 18 points made (a score which would be her best yet until the team’s next game).

“I had… about four [three pointers]. We came up short, we lost, but it was a good game for me,” Stake said.

EC girls varsity basketball players go for the rebound against the Rio Linda Knights.

The team’s top scorer, Calista Wold (‘27), shared her teammate’s optimism about the Eagles’ performance that night.

“[Rio Linda] were a really good team, but I feel like we played really good together and we didn’t have as many turnovers… compared to the last time we played them,” Wold stated.

Both Wold and Stake mentioned how they work well with each other, and are generally the two top scorers for their team, this game being no exception.

While this Girls Basketball season is coming to a close, both Stake and Marbach have expectations that the team will make significant progress going into their next season.

Both Girls and Boys Basketball will resume in November of this year, and will be charging $6 per person for entry.
