On Feb. 6, El Camino held a Cash for College information night, for students and their families to learn more about financial aid. Cash for College is a program that holds in person and virtual workshops with financial aid experts. These experts help families apply for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or CA Dream Act Application (CADAA). This program is put on by the California Student Aid Commission, a group that strives to make after high school education accessible to all students in California. On their website, they explain that this program will make education more equitable for the students of California.
Cash for College workshops are targeted towards graduating seniors and their families, but juniors and people returning to college are also welcome to attend to learn more about different financial aid options.
College and Career Center Tech Sara Vieira believes that Cash for College night is beneficial for families at EC.
“A lot of the families had one on one—they were able to help them on the spot and get those questions answered,” Vieira said.
Vieira also explained that the counseling office and career center works together to set up the event, and how the event was successful.
Around 20 families attended the event, aided by interpreters in three languages. There were also 15 volunteers to keep the event running smoothly.
The Cash for College program is available to families across the state. To learn more about your college and career opportunities, visit Sara Vieira in room 25.
