Just in time for the holidays, the Scholastic Book Fair has come to El Camino bringing a variety of books, fun school supplies and trinkets available for purchase in the library. The book fair will be on campus from Dec. 11 all the way to Dec. 20, the last day of school before winter break.

Scholastic is the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books. They are especially known for the book fairs that they do for schools. Often they go to elementary schools and bring shelves full of books, pens, crafts, and other supplies for the students to encourage them to find books they are interested in. A percentage of the proceeds from the sales goes to the school so they can purchase more books for their library.

Meaghan Sheehan, the librarian for EC used to have the Scholastic Book Fair at the elementary school she worked at, but after switching to EC, Sheehan didn’t expect to continue it. This is mostly because she didn’t think there was a high school level fair that Scholastic offered. After finding out that the fair could come to the school, Sheehan began organizing it, and now it is the third year that the Scholastic Book Fair has come to EC.

“It was really cool that I could still do it because I enjoy it, it’s fun,” she said.

Scholastic makes the book fair very easy for schools to host it. Scholastic drops off all the supplies already on the shelves and pre-boxed, ready to be on display. All that needs to be done to set up is unpack and organize the shelves to one’s preference.

“They just drop it off. It’s usually pretty easy because the cases are already loaded, I just have to open them up,” Sheehan continued.

To check out the book fair visit the library where students can find all different genres of books from horror, romance, to science fiction and even manga that you can purchase for yourself or even gift to a friend for the holidays.

Stop by during lunch to see what the book fair has to offer before it’s gone. The last day for the fair is this Friday so don’t miss out. If you are looking for more information you can find Sheehan in the library during school hours.
