The El Camino Athletics Staff have announced that Brian Lewis, The Head Coach for the Varsity Football Team, has been let go. Lewis joined EC at the start of the 2024 season and led the Eagles Varsity team through 3 Quarterbacks in 3 months as well as an 0-10 record which many see as disappointing and embarrassing. Lewis will be the third new coach for EC in three years after Coach JP Dolliver left EC in 2022 after holding that position since 2018. Dolliver was replaced by Brian Welsh as Interim Head Coach. Welsh went on to leave the program in 2023 and was replaced with Lewis. A player on the team started a petition on the website “ipetitions”, titled “Against the Dismissal of Head Football Coach Brian Lewis.”
A passionate family member of a player on the team signed the petition and commented on the post itself.“I am signing this petition to support reinstating a coach who, in just one year, transformed the ECHS football team and its players, including my nephew—the players and community deeply value his leadership and believe he deserves the chance to continue his exceptional work,” said the family member. Currently 303 people have signed the online petition which requires 700 signatures on the website.
