On April 20 El Camino’s Junior Class held their Annual Junior Prom in the back quad. The theme was “Garden under the Moonlight,” which was decided by the juniors in student government. Ticket prices started at 30 dollars and went up to 40 dollars in the days before the dance.
Many students had “promposals,” where someone would ask their date to prom with a fun poster and flowers or some sort of gift. Students could send their “promposals” to the junior class Instagram page, and the best one won two free tickets to the dance.
Before the dance, several students took pictures and went out to dinner with their friends. During the prom, students danced with their friends and enjoyed each other’s company. Staff and parent volunteers also helped run the dance by being chaperones and helping with the coat check.
Lucas Waddell (‘25) helped plan the dance, and he explained the garden themed decorations.
“They were mostly floral, we got real flowers for vases and fake ones to wrap around poles,” Waddell said.
Waddell went on to talk about how student government also decorated with gold lights and other gold accents. He also spoke about how his friends brought up the energy and made the dance a more enjoyable event for him.
While planning is important, the most important thing about school dances is to have fun with your friends and classmates.
Josiah Campbel (‘25) attended the prom with his group of friends who danced all night.
“Junior prom is important because it’s a celebration of the years we’ve spent in highschool and it’s our own dance—it’s special,” Campbel explained.
Junior prom is an important tradition at EC and many underclassmen are looking forward to their prom. For more information about dances, look at posters around the school or follow EC’s Instagram page.
