On March 16, El Camino held its annual morning car show in the junior parking lot. This event is a fundraiser for the class of 2024 to go towards their senior ball. Tickets were sold for $10 per car and hotdogs and coffee were donated to the fundraiser to be sold to raise more money. This fundraiser is one of the highest earning fundraisers on campus. This year the seniors were able to raise over $2,000 at the event.

In the junior lot all kinds of unique and classic cars filled up the majority of the lot. Students and families could walk around the lot to view and admire each car while music played by DJ and French Teacher David Manigart allowed for a fun and welcoming environment for all attendees.

Manigart started the car show in 2020, although the first show got canceled because of Covid 19, it is now in its third year. Because of his keen interest in classic cars with his 1967 Cadillac  DeVille convertible and many connections into car communities he thought it would be a great way to bring a new funderaser to EC.

“For me it was ‘let’s have people enjoy classic cars, let’s raise money for the graduating class and let’s socialize,’” Manigart said.

Senior student government members helped put on the event by putting up posters, getting participants, and helping get everything organized the day of.

Keegan Oats (‘24) and Damon Butler (‘24) were the leads for the show which means they were in charge of running the event. They went to a couple of car related events in Fair Oaks to hand out flyers to car owners.

Oats explained his role in the event.

“[I had to] talk to people about getting the cars to come, passing out flyers, [and] picking up the coffee,” Oates said.

Butler had a great time and was pleased with how well the fundraiser went. He explained his favorite part.

“Seeing everyone enjoy themselves while they were there was my favorite,” Butler said.

The car show had a great turnout, a lot of people all over the community came out to support EC and admire cool cars.  If you would like more information contact Manigart at dmanigart@sanjuan.edu.
