From Dec. 5 to Dec. 15 Marcia Tyler’s junior AVID class will be selling candy cane grams to El Camino students on the S-Lawn and Front Quad to donate to the Front Street Animal Shelter for one to two dollars.

The candy cane grams are $1 through the end of the day. The prices will be raised to $2 on Monday. Dec. 15 will be the last day to buy one before the fundraiser is closed.

Junior AVID student’s Caden Graffigna (’25) is leading the fundraiser with Zito Vang (’25). Graffigna explained that their AVID class came up with the idea for the fundraiser around a month ago.

“We had to make some kind of fundraiser for the animal shelter, and it was just an example we ended up coming up with and decided to go with it,” said Graffigna.

Graffigna stated that the class agreed on giving the Front Street Animal Shelter the money after the fundraiser is over, as their donations are always open.

Vang said he chose to help run the fundraiser because he wanted to help the animals.

“I chose to do it — just to help raise money for the animal shelter,” said Vang.

Vang will be running a station in the front quad and in the S-Lawn during lunch, and Graffigna will run another one, both accompanied by a couple other students from their AVID class.

To buy a candy cane gram the people at either station will take the student’s name, the person they want to give it to and their third period. Optionally the student could also send a message with the candy cane.

For more information on how to either buy a gram or volunteer to help run it, visit the stand on the S-lawn or in the front quad during lunch.
