On June 7, the class of 2024 painted their parking spots in the Senior Parking lot. The Senior Parking lot is located in the back of campus, next to the Performing Arts Center. The incoming seniors spent the day socializing and decorating their parking spots where they will park for the rest of the school year.
Senior Class President Addison Ponder (‘24) explained how this event is one of the most lucrative fundraisers for Student Government. Ponder said they use this money for Senior Ball and other expenses throughout the year.
“[It’s] actually a big fundraiser for us because there are so many parking spots—everyone wants one,” Ponder said
There are 64 parking spots in the lot. Due to the fact that the senior class has more students than parking spots, to make it fair the fundraiser is a lottery. Students can apply to get a parking spot through a Google Form that Principal Evelyn Welborn had sent out to the senior class.
Associated Student Body President Carolina Carruth (‘24) said that more students signed up than parking spots available. Carruth explained that some students didn’t get spots because they didn’t have a car, or because they didn’t want to pay the sixty dollars.
Students had the freedom to paint whatever they wanted to express themselves and make the spot their own. Student Government Advisor Sara Turner and Senior Class Advisor Kyle Keller spent the day supervising students painting in the parking lot.
Ponder spoke more about how all seniors enjoyed this event.
“It’s a fun introduction into being a senior and everyone looks forward to it.” Ponder said.
This tradition that started in 2018 is up for debate for next school year. To find out more on this possibility, preview an upcoming article. Eagle Eye staff is working to find out more.
